I'm writing to let you know that Representative Krajewski is inviting you to join him, Representative Cephas, and the Democratic Caucus Policy Committee for a Hearing and Recreation Center Tour on Monday, August 15th. Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Centers are indispensable parts of our communities, providing safe spaces for people to recreate, connect, and grow together. Apart from offering out-of-school programming for youth, space to host local events, and green space for the community to play, research also shows that well maintained and designed parks can combat mental health issues and gun violence. Usage of parks throughout the pandemic increased by nearly 20% — despite this, many of our Parks and Rec centers are left in desperate need of resources and renovations, from building renovations to groundskeeping and new playground equipment. In the near future, Rep. Krajewski plans on introducing legislation that would allocate $500 million from American Rescue Plan funds towards infrastructure improvements for Parks and Recreation centers throughout the state to ensure they have the resources they need to thrive and continue supporting their communities. The hearing will concern the bill and the benefits of community investment, both in Parks and Recreation infrastructure and neighborhood beautification. The hearing will be preceded by an optional tour of Kingsessing Recreation Center.
