June 2017 Business District Update
The Garden Court Community Association 48th & Spruce Streets Business District Revitalization Committee has been active recently working to establish priorities for the coming year. Principal concerns include obtaining pedestrian-level lighting for 48th Street, expanding security cameras, and organizing a street sale or street-fair type of event.
Recent developments in the business corridor include outdoor dining facilities at Carl Lewis’ 48th Street Grille, the reopening of the nearby University Swim Club, the successful May 4th Eats for Equity fundraiser for the Center for Culinary Enterprises, the relocation of Murray’s Dry Cleaners to 4801 Pine Street, and the shuttering of Sadidi’s Furniture and Baltimore Crab & Seafood Restaurant.
Several of the corridor’s merchants are considering participating in the Flea Market at the Lea School playground on Saturday, June 10, from 8:00 AM to noon. Some of the proceeds from that event – jointly sponsored by Walnut Hill Community Association, Garden Court Community Association, and the Lea Home & School Association – will support children’s activities of the Lea Home & School Association.
